How I cook

I work hard to provide my family with nutritious meals made with natural ingredients. I grow a lot of my fruits and veggies in my own backyard garden and I only buy organic and local fruits and veggies. I do my best to not use processed foods and to eat as close to natural as possible. I use only full fat dairy from pasture raised cows and only real eggs from pastured chickens. The benefits from real food are numerous and amazing. Our bodies are made to survive and flourish on the real food humans have been eating for thousands of years not the processed foods and factory farm foods of the last 50-60 years.

Since I was a vegetarian for 20 years a lot of my recipes are vegetarian but feel free to add meat to them if you like. Just choose organic, grass feed meat please! Since starting GAPS to heal our children our menu has changed a lot but the basic real food ingredients are the same.

I think that all recipes are a work in progress. I love to have feedback so if you have tried any of my recipes please leave a comment and let me know how it went. I would also like to hear how you would change up the recipe.

I rarely cook the same way twice, something that drives my husband crazy, I use recipes as a guide to basic ratios and ideas on ingredients. Everything depends on personal taste or how I am feeling that day. That said I keep all my recipes very basic and then add, change, and substitute depending on my mood and what I have on hand or in the garden. So when you see an ingredient like veggies or spices this is where you get to be creative with what ever you have on hand. All of my dinner recipes are very versatile because when you grow your own food and only buy local items you have to have recipes that can change with the seasons.
